NIFO Community Guidelines Building a respectful, helpful and trusted community for Nigerians in the UK. Welcome to NIFO — a community platform created to help Nigerians in the United Kingdom connect, share information, discover opportunities, support one another and stay informed about what matters to our community. Whether you're sharing a personal experience, discussing immigration, looking for a job, advertising a business or joining a conversation, we want NIFO to be a place where everyone feels welcome and respected. These Community Guidelines explain the behaviour we expect from everyone using NIFO. They apply to all areas of the platform, including Trending Online, Trending on NIFO, Forums, Marketplace, comments, replies and private messages. By using NIFO, you agree to follow these guidelines. 1. Treat everyone with respect NIFO brings together people with different backgrounds, experiences, opinions and beliefs. Respectful disagreement is welcome; personal attacks are not. Please: Be polite and considerate when interacting with others. Respect different opinions, cultures, religions, backgrounds and lifestyles. Discuss ideas without insulting or attacking the people expressing them. Avoid unnecessary arguments, personal attacks and hostile comments. Be mindful that your words can affect other members of the community. Disagreements are part of a healthy community. Harassment, intimidation and disrespect are not. 2. No hate speech, discrimination or harassment NIFO does not tolerate content or behaviour that targets, threatens, humiliates or intimidates people. You must not: Post racist, ethnic, tribal or religious slurs. Discriminate against or attack anyone based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics. Encourage violence, hostility or hatred towards an individual or group. Bully, threaten, stalk or repeatedly harass another member. Share content intended to shame, degrade or intimidate someone. Encourage others to target or harass a person. Criticism of ideas, institutions, public policies or public figures is allowed when expressed respectfully. Targeting individuals or groups with abuse is not. 3. Share accurate and responsible information NIFO aims to be a useful source of information and discussion for Nigerians in the UK. We encourage members to share helpful experiences and information, but everyone has a responsibility to consider what they publish. Before sharing information: Check that news, statistics and claims come from credible sources. Distinguish personal experiences and opinions from verified facts. Do not deliberately publish false or misleading information. Avoid presenting rumours, speculation or unverified claims as confirmed news. Correct or clarify information when you discover that something you shared was inaccurate. Take particular care when sharing information about immigration, visas, employment, housing, healthcare, finance and legal matters. Rules and circumstances can differ, and information may change. Personal experiences can be valuable, but they should not be presented as professional or official advice unless you are appropriately qualified and authorised to provide it. 4. Use the right forums and topics NIFO has dedicated forums to help members discover relevant conversations and information. When creating a post: Select the most appropriate forum. Choose a topic that accurately describes your post. Keep discussions relevant to the selected forum and topic. Do not deliberately use misleading tags to attract attention or increase engagement. Avoid repeatedly publishing the same post across multiple forums. Where necessary, NIFO administrators and moderators may change a post's forum or topic tags to improve organisation and relevance. 5. Protect privacy and personal information Respect the privacy of other members and protect your own information. You must not: Publish another person's home address, private phone number, email address or other personal information without their permission. Share private conversations, messages, photographs or recordings without appropriate consent. Publish identity documents, bank details, passwords, immigration documents or other sensitive personal records. Impersonate another person or create misleading accounts. Use information obtained from NIFO to harass, threaten, defraud or exploit another member. Only make your contact information publicly visible if you are comfortable with other people accessing it. Be careful about the personal information you share in public posts and private messages. 6. Keep private messages respectful NIFO's messaging feature is intended to help members communicate and build genuine connections. When using private messages: Communicate respectfully and do not send abusive, threatening or intimidating messages. Do not send unsolicited spam, scams or repeated unwanted messages. Respect another member's decision not to respond. Do not pressure people into sharing personal information, money or photographs. Do not use private messages to promote fraudulent services or harass other members. Respect requests to stop contacting someone. Members can manage their direct message preferences. Where available, you can also block users who make you uncomfortable. 7. Marketplace guidelines NIFO Marketplace allows members to promote businesses, products and services to the community. To keep Marketplace useful and trustworthy: Provide honest descriptions of the products or services you advertise. Use genuine photographs where possible. Trending Online and third-party content Trending Online features content selected and published by NIFO administrators from sources such as news websites and social media platforms. When engaging with this content: Respect the original creator and publisher. Refer to the source provided with the post. Avoid using the comments to harass, threaten or attack others. Do not assume that every third-party post represents NIFO's official position or endorsement. NIFO aims to provide useful and relevant content, but third-party information may contain errors, opinions or claims that NIFO has not independently verified. 12. Use NIFO responsibly Every member has a role in maintaining a healthy community. Please: Think before publishing. Avoid posting when angry or intending to provoke others. Do not encourage others to break these guidelines. Report content or behaviour that puts other members at risk. Cooperate respectfully with administrators and moderators. Do not attempt to bypass a moderation decision by creating another account or repeatedly reposting removed content. 13. Reporting content and users Help us keep NIFO safe by reporting content or behaviour that violates these guidelines. You should report: Abusive, discriminatory or threatening content. Harassment, bullying or unwanted contact. Suspicious accounts and impersonation. Fraudulent Marketplace listings or scams. Misleading or harmful information. Content that exposes another person's private information. Any other activity that appears to violate these guidelines. Use the reporting tools available on NIFO or the contact details published on nifo.app. Please provide accurate information when making a report. Do not use reporting tools to target someone simply because you disagree with their opinion. 14. Moderation and enforcement NIFO administrators and moderators help maintain a safe, organised and useful community. When content or behaviour violates these guidelines, NIFO may take action depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue. Possible actions include: Removing or restricting access to content. Correcting or changing forum and topic tags. Issuing a warning. Restricting access to certain features, including posting, messaging or Marketplace. Temporarily suspending an account. Permanently restricting or disabling an account. Taking other appropriate steps to protect the community. Serious violations, including threats, exploitation, fraud and repeated harassment, may result in immediate account restrictions or removal without a prior warning. NIFO may review reported content and relevant account activity to investigate potential violations. Where appropriate, information may be shared with relevant authorities in accordance with applicable law. Members who believe a moderation decision was made incorrectly may contact NIFO through the contact details published on nifo.app to request a review. 15. Your responsibility as a member You are responsible for the content you publish and the way you interact with other members. NIFO does not guarantee the accuracy of every user-generated post, comment, Marketplace listing or private message. Members should exercise their own judgement when relying on information or interacting with other users. Be particularly cautious when: Making payments to other members. Accepting job or accommodation offers. Sharing personal or financial information. Following immigration, financial, healthcare or legal advice. Arranging to meet someone you first encountered on NIFO. If you suspect fraud or believe you are in immediate danger, contact the appropriate authorities rather than relying solely on NIFO's moderation process. 16. Updates to these guidelines We may update these Community Guidelines as NIFO grows, introduces new features or responds to changes in community needs. Any revised version will be published on nifo.app. We encourage members to review the guidelines periodically. Continued use of NIFO after an update means you are expected to follow the revised guidelines. Our commitment NIFO exists to bring Nigerians in the UK closer together through meaningful conversations, useful information, opportunities and community support. We want everyone to be able to participate without fear of harassment, discrimination, scams or abuse. Be respectful. Be helpful. Be responsible. Help us make NIFO a community worth belonging to.
